Belgium eliminated the United States from the World Cup on Tuesday with a 2-1 win, with all 3 goals coming in extra time after going scoreless for 90 minutes. Although US goalkeeper Tim Howard had a historic performance in goal, Belgium dominated possession for the majority of the game and the goals were inevitable. Shortly after Belgium's second goal, Julian Green was subbed in for the US. Just 2 minutes later, he scored the first (and only) goal for the US to narrow the score to 2-1:
US had a few fantastic opportunities in the remaining extra time, but were unable to convert. The US elimination was cemented after the final minute of stoppage time tacked onto the end of the second half of extra time ended and the whistle blew.
