In Brazil's 2-1 victory over Colombia in the quarterfinals of the World Cup to advance to the semifinals, Brazil's star player Neymar suffered an apparent serious injury in the 88th minute when he was kneed in the back by Colombia's Juan Zuniga.

He laid down on the field and seemed to be in excessive pain, far beyond the normal embellishment seen throughout the course of World Cup matches. He was then carefully put onto a Stokes basket (like a stretcher), carried off the field, and taken right to the hospital.

Hours after the game has ended, it is being reported by multiple news outlets that Neymar has "suffered a broken vertebra and is out of the World Cup".

After the match, Colombia star and the leading scorer of the tournament with six goals (including Colombia's only one in the loss) James Rodriguez was seen being sincerely consoled by opponent David Luiz (who scored the second goal for Brazil). It was a touching moment.

Brazil will face Germay in the semifinals on Tuesday.
