The World Cup's 3rd-place match between Brazil and the Netherlands got off to a quick start with Arjden Robben of the Netherlands drawing a penalty kick in the first few minutes. Thiago Silva, who did not play due to suspension in the semifinal match against Germany, was issued a yellow card on the play.

Robin van Persie took the penalty kick and converted to put the Netherlands up 1-0.

Daley Blind gave the Netherlands a 2-0 lead in the 17th minute after the Netherlands got away with being offsides and Brazil did a poor job clearing the ball.

The rest of the first half was more balanced, but Brazil was unable to get a goal. They lost 7-1 to Germany in the semifinals, while the Netherlands lost on penalty kicks against Argentina. Argentina and Germany play in the World Cup final tomorrow.
