Maria Sharapova, the former top-ranked women's tennis player and current 7th-seed, defeated 18th-seeded Eugenie Bouchard in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 (match stats). The win sends Sharapova to the French Open Final, where she will face Simona Halep.

Bouchard played a great game up until the third set, when Sharapova took over. After Bouchard won the first set, Sharapova won crucial points late in the second set and dominated the third set, as she has been known to do recently. At one point in the match, in the second set when Sharapova led 5-2, a Sharapova service game lasted for over eight minutes until Bouchard finally won after gaining the advantage point. 20-year-old Bouchard is only the second women's tennis player from Canada to make it to a Grand Slam semi-final, which she has done twice this year at both the Australian and French open.

The 27-year-old Russian has won each Grand Slam tournament once, with Roland Garros being her most recent win, in 2012. Sharapova won Wimbledon in 2004, the US Open in 2006, and the Australian Open in 2008. This is the third year in a row that Sharapova will be in the Final at the French Open. In 2012, she lost to Sara Errani. In 2013, she lost to Serena Williams.
