On the May 21, 2014 episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Jon Stewart issued an apology to Philadelphia Phillies mascot Philip E. Phanatic. The prior night's episode, on May 20, 2014, Stewart ripped apart the Philllie's manager for sullying the good name of a local New York food establishment called Shake Shack. He then proceeded to rip apart the city of Philadelphia and their food choices.
"What kind of city takes the parts of the cow normal people throw away, fries it up on a hunk of bread and before they can call it their signature dish asks, 'you want me to put whiz on that?' I'll tell you, a city so fucking dumb, it uses it's art museum as exercise equipment. Yeah, you heard me. A city so famously shitty, no animal would...represent it's baseball team, forcing it to go with this...fucked up Him Henson reject-looking piece of shit. Let me tell you something, you liberty bell worshipping other fuckers...What city is so insecure it has to put it's name on cream cheese?...Okay, you made topping for a bagel. What do you want, a Nobel Prize? Seriously though thanks for selling these in brick shape, in case I wanted to build my own international house of assholes."
The next night, Stewart acknowledged that he offended Philadelphia and apologized thoroughly.
"Off the top, an apology. Last night I may have inadvertently made some derogatory remarks towards Philadelphia Phillies Manager Ryne Sandberg...and the entire city of Philadelphia. And while a city that famously booed and threw snowballs at Santa Claus may deserve some shade, I hurt some people that I care about very much, including one Philip E. Phanatic. Philly, they call him." Watch the rest below:
