After 113 scoreless minutes, Mario Gotze scored for Germany. With less than ten minutes left in extra time, the goal stood as the only goal of the match and the World Cup championship-clinching goal.

It is Germany's first World Cup win since 1990 and their first ever win as a united country, having won three previous World Cups as West Germany in 1954, 1974, and 1990. They now have four total World Cups, which is a tie second most along with Italy. Brazil still holds the record with five total.

Gotze is the first substitute to score in a World Cup final. He was subbed in for 36-year-old Miroslav Klose, who broke the record for most career goals in the World Cup in the semifinals when he scored his 16th. Klose has had a long, illustrious career with Germany that will now be capped off with the World Cup win tonight.

Here are a bunch of GIFs of the goal:

James Rodriguez of Colombia won the Golden Boot for leading scorer of the tournament. Lionel Messi of Argentina was awarded Golden Ball for best player, and Germany's Manuel Neuer Golden Glove for best goalkeeper. Here is Germany celebrating as they lift the trophy:
