In a match that was just under four hours, Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer at the Wimbledon finals in five sets, 6-7 (7), 6-4, 7-6 (4), 5-7, 6-4. It was Djokovic's second Wimbledon title, winning previously in 2011 (just like this year's women's winner, Petra Kvitova). He denied Federer the opportunity to win a record eight Wimbledon titles. It was the first Grand Slam title for Djokovic since he won the Australian Open in 2013.

While Djokovic thanked Federer for letting him win, Federer made sure the adoring crowd knew he'd be back next year.
