Serena Williams, five times a Wimbledon champion and the  No.1 seed for The Championships 2014, was in considerable distress after withdrawing from her second doubles match with her sister Venus at 0-3 down against the Swiss-German combination of Stefanie Voegele and Kristina Barrois. She later revealed in a statement that she was suffering from a viral illness. (Wimbledon.com)

Serena was upset after losing to Alize Cornet on Saturday. When she appeared on court for her doubles match with Venus, she was flat-out disoriented. After warmups, she was attended to by two doctors for over ten minutes. She spent the time with her face in her hands, crying, and shaking her head. It was a surprise she decided to play at all, and very hard to watch as she just continued to double fault and struggle to grab simple bouncing balls.

Today, she tweeted out a picture of herself sleeping on a couch. Whether or not it is a physical illness or emotional/mental problem, or a combination of both, may never be known.

Every serve was a fault, and none registered on the radar gun. It was after four double faults that it appeared the umpire asked her to retire.

It was certainly dramatic.
